Men's Bowling Sweeps MCCAA Tournament, Women Finish Third
The MCCAA Conference Tournament was hosted in Livonia at Merri-Bowl over the weekend, and the Laker bowling teams took part, and showed well.
In the women's event, they got off to a good start in doubles, sitting about 50 pins back of first place, and sitting in second for the event. The singles and team event dropped the ladies into third place for the event heading into bakers. Despite throwing the highest total pinfall for the baker event, the ladies could not mount the comeback. They remained in third place in the event, trailing second place Jackson College, and team champion Kellogg Community College.
The doubles pairing of Khaila Bullard and Becca Claypool finished third in the doubles event with a combined score of 980. Skylar Davy was the top finisher for the Lakers in the singles event, finishing in third place with a 537 series. Davy also was the Lakers high finisher in all-events, finishing in 8th place out of nearly 50 bowlers with a 1,342 series over the eight games. Khaila Bullard was next in line with a series of 1,258 over her eight games, while Becca Claypool had an eight game total of 1,229.
In the men's event, they found themselves in second place after doubles. A strong singles set, the tournament high of 3,043 put them back out in front over MCCAA Eastern Conference foe, the Schoolcraft College Ocelots. The Lakers lengthened the lead a bit during the team event, and found themselves ahead by less than 100 pins going into bakers. After trading leads with the Ocelots throughout bakers, the Lakers edged out the conference tournament win by 87 pins.
The Lakers not only won the team event, but swept the individual awards as well. The doubles pairing of Jase Clairmont and Ruberto Mosqueda won the doubles event with a combined score of 1.208. In singles, Brett Petersen won the event with a a 744 series over his three games. Jase Clairmont found himself as the singles runner up with a 664 series. Petersen won the all-events category as well with a series of 1,720 over his eight games.
At the conclusion of this event, both Laker teams were also recognized, and were awarded the official MCCAA Eastern Conference crown.
This marked back-to-back MCCAA Tournament wins for the men's program.
Both teams will return to action on February 16th at Royal Scot in Lansing when they will participate in the Region XII Tournament. Scoring is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM.
