Men's Bowling Takes Runner-Up Finish, Women Take Third Place at Region XII Tournament
Both bowling teams competed in the Region XII Tournament at Royal Scot in Lansing over the past weekend.
The women's team finished in third place, trailing runner-up Kellogg CC and Region XII Champion Jackson College.
In the singles event, the Lady Lakers saw four finishers in the top 15 out of a tournament field of 46 competitors. Becca Claypool slid into the top 10 with a 530 series and a high game of 222. On her heels, Khaila Bullard finished with a 529 series and a high game of 211, good for 10th place. Tied in 11th place were Skylar Davy and Amelia King with a 515 series. Davy had a high game of 179 and King had a high game of 198 respectively.
Abby Self and Olivia Moss found themselves tied for 6th in the doubles event with a combined total pinfall of 976.
In all-events, the high finisher was Skylar Davy who finished 8th in the field of 46 women's bowlers. Her 8th place finish put her right on the cusp of All-Region which is top six with her 1,376 total pins. Claypool was the next highest finisher for the Lakers, finishing 15th with a total pinfall of 1,311. Right behind Claypool in all-events was Olivia Moss who finished with a total pinfall of 1,297 good for 16th. Khaila Bullard rounded it out for the Lakers in the top 20, finishing 19th with a total pinall of 1,271.
The men's team finished runner-up to Schoolcraft College. The Lakers led after the singles and doubles portion, and fell behind after the two team games. The Lakers couldn't overcome the deficit in bakers, finishing 165 pins back of the Ocelots for the Region XII crown.
The singles event, while no Lakers medaled, was a solid event for the team. Cole Swanberg was one pin out of receiving third place honors. Swanberg threw a high game of 256. Right behind him was teammate Mason Hodges who finished with a 655 series and a high game of 242. Angelo Porter threw a 639 series with a high game of 268. Brett Petersen marked the fourth Laker in the top 10 with a 629 series.
In the doubles event, Brett Petersen and Cole Swanberg combined for a total pinfall of 1,259 which won the event. Jase Clairmont and Ruberto Mosqueda finished sixth in the event with a series of 1,145.
The Laker men had two bowlers receive all-region honors, as well as medals for their all-events place. Brett Petersen won all-events with a 1,684 series while Cole Swanberg finished runner-up in all-events with a 1,624 series.
The Lakers return to action on Friday, 2/23 when they play host to the second annual MCCAA Baker Challenge.
