Both Bowling Teams Take Top-10 National Finish

Both bowling teams went down to Lansing to bowl in the NJCAA National Tournament in the season finale.

The tournament began on Thursday, 2/29 with the women's singles and doubles event. The doubles event was up first, in which the leader for the Lakers was the pairing of Amelia King and Skylar Davy, who's combined series total was 949 pins, placing them 18th in the tournament. Right on their heels were teammates Khaila Bullard and Becca Claypool who finished with 946 pins, good for 19th. Next up was the singles event, in which the leader for the Lakers was Olivia Moss who bowled a 518 series, and finished 28th in the event out of 95 participants.

In the team event, the Lady Lakers bowlers knocked down 10,463 pins, good for 9th in the tournament, locking up another top-10 finish for the program. They found themselves right on the heels of fellow Region XII programs Jackson College (8th) and Kellogg CC (7th). The women have consistently found themselves in the top-10 year in and year out amongst all competitors in the national tournament.

The men began their day on Friday, which included the doubles event first, followed by the singles event. From there, they'd get into the team event, and finish it all on Saturday.

The doubles pairing of Brett Petersen and Cole Swanberg found themselves less than 60 pins out of top 3 medalist status, finishing 8th in the event with a combined pinfall of 1,121. In the singles event, Jase Clairmont finished in 5th place out of 145 bowlers with a 618 series, just 7 pins out of a top 3 event finish. Teammate Cole Swanberg found himself just outside of the top 10 in singles, finishing 12th with a 593 series. Brett Petersen was the leader for the Lakers in All-Events finishing 14th out of 145 bowlers. Petersen's 14th place finish is the highest finish for a men's bowler in program history, surpassing his teammate Jase Clairmont's 17th place finish last season.

In the team event, the Lakers found themselves in 7th place after singles and doubles, and fell down to 9th after the first team block on Friday. After a good team block on Saturday, the Lakers jumped back up to 7th place out of the 19 team field, and that's where they'd finish. That placed them as the top finishing Region XII school, just ahead of Schoolcraft College (8th) and Jackson College (10th). This was their second consecutive finish of 7th place in the nation.
