Softball Splits First Two Days of Spring Trip, Record to 2-2

Softball began their season in Florida for spring training. They split each of their first two days down south. Day one they played Grand Rapids Community College and West Virginia Weslyan JV. Day two they played Pasco-Hernando State College and Minnesota North College-Hibbing.

Game one versus GRCC the Lakers picked up win number one convincingly with a score of 18-5. Nine different ladies had hits in the contest, amassing 17 hits as a team. Olyviah Hanson launched the first home run for the Lakers of the spring. Baylee Ex turned in a good game as well, going 3-4 with a double, a triple, and 3 RBI. Shelby Bundy had a 3-4 game as well with 3 RBI. Janelle Yarnell, Ella Clauss, Haley Gibson, and Angelina Lanham each had multi-hit games as well. Heidi Nagel earned the first win of the spring. allowing 2 ER over 3.2 innings.

Game two the Lakers moved on to West Virginia Weslyan JV. The bats cooled down as they were shutout with a score of 6-0. The Lakers lone two hits came off the bats of Angelina Lanham and Riley Shafer. 

Game three the ladies set their sights on Pasco-Hernando State. A few errors resulted in some extra runs crossing the plate, eventually resulting in the Lakers falling 7-3 in game three. Heidi Nagel again toed the rubber, she went the distance throwing 7.0 innings and allowing just 3 ER while striking out 9. Shelby Bundy had the only two RBI batted in, as a result of a two-run homerun. Janelle Yarnell also had a multi-hit game.

Game three the bats exploded in a lopsided 20-6 win over Minnesota North College-Hibbing. The Lakers had 14 hits as a team, including 4 extra-base hits. Ella Clauss launched a homerun, driving in two runs. Baylee Ex went 2-2 with two walks, two triples, and 4 RBI. Shelby Bundy and Allie Young also both had multi-hit games. Olivia Strange had a double and 2 RBI.
