Softball Splits Days 3 and 4 in Orlando

Softball sat at 2-2 looking to get above the .500 mark as they matched up with West Virginia Wesleyan College in game one, and Illinois Valley Community College in game two.

Game one versus West Virginia Wesleyan was a pitchers duel. Heidi Nagel threw the full game for the Lakers, 2 runs scored, neither was earned, and Nagel struck out 15 of the 33 batters she faced. The Lakers got some offense from Janelle Yarnell, who hit a solo homerun in the game. Ella Clauss and Allie Young both also drove in a run in the contest. The Lakers came out with a win 3-2.

Game two the Lakers took on Illinois Valley Community College. The bats cooled off, resulting in just two hits as a team in a 15-1 lopsided loss. Yarnell drove in the lone Laker run. In the field, 5 errors resulted in only 5 of the 15 runs scored being earned on starting pitcher Maggie Wallace.

Day four, the Lakers had another double header, sitting at 3-3 through the first three days. 

The Lakers rematched with West Virginia Wesleyan College in game one of day four. The bats perked up from the conclusion of day three, resulting in 7 hits and 4 runs, but this would not be enough, as a walk-off 5-4 win for West Virginia Wesleyan handed the Lakers a loss to start the day. Angelina Lanham had a multi-hit game, including a triple and a run driven in. Janelle Yarnell drove in two runs, Shelby Bundy drove in one.

In game two, the Lakers matched up with Triton College. In what was a pitchers battle, the Lakers edged them out with a 2-0 win. There was only 5 hits between both sides, the Lakers having three of them. The lone runs came on a 2-run homerun off the bat of Shelby Bundy. Heidi Nagel went the distance, throwing all 7 innings, striking out 10 batters, allowing just two hits in the shut out win. 

This pulls Laker softball's record to 4-4 on the week with 4 games left to play.
