Lakers Return from Orlando Spring Training at 6-6
Softball came in at 4-4, looking to build on their solid start to the spring season in Orlando, Florida.
They took the field again Friday, March 10th in a double header versus Rowan College South Jersey-Gloucester.
Game one the Lakers got off to a hot start, eventually winning over Rowan College 12-3. The hit parade was led by Shelby Bundy who hit a pair of homeruns, while driving in 7 runs in hr 3-3 performance at the plate. Maggie Wallace and Baylee Ex both also turned in multi-hit games. Wallace drove in two runs as well. Heidi Nagel threw all 5 innings, allowing just 2 earned runs while striking out 5.
Game two, the Lakers lost a tight heart-breaking walk-off game to Rowan College. Three girls turned in multi-hit games, headlined by Angelina Lanham with a 2-3 performance at the plate, hitting a pair of homeruns and drove in 3 runs. Janelle Yarnell went 3-3 with two doubles. Maggie Wallace went 2-4 with a double as well. Rylie Shafer, Mackenzie Hoogerhyde, and Olyviah Hanson each drove in a run as well.
This pushed their record to 5-5, with a pair of games left. Game one versus Triton College and game two versus Madison College.
Game one, the Lakers outlasted Triton College 4-1 to pick up their 6th win of the season. Heidi Nagel threw another gem, throwing all 7 innings, allowing just 4 hits, 1 walk, allowing 1 earned run while striking out 14. Janelle Yarnell yielded half of the Laker offense with a 2-run homerun. Baylee Ex and Ella Clauss each turned in a multi-hit performance in the win.
Game two, the Lakers fell to Madison College 9-5. The ladies had 13 hits but could only muster up 5 runs in the game. Rylie Shafer went 3-3 on the game, driving in 2 runs. Janelle Yarnell and Mackenzie Hoogerhyde both had a 2-hit game and drove in a run. Shelby Bundy also had a multi-hit game.
The Lakers made the trip back to Michigan with an even record of 6-6 and look to improve that record when they are scheduled to play four games in two days versus Saint Clair County Community College on 3/17 and 3/18
