Softball Drops Two Games to Oakland
Softball took the field against perrenial powerhouse Oakland Community College on the road. The Lakers looked to stay on a roll after sweeping Alma College, but the Raiders ended up being too much to handle.
Game one the Lakers fell 7-3. The Lakers accumulated eight hits in the game, but could not scratch more than the three runs across the plate. Janelle Yarnell and Riley Shafer each had two hits apiece in the game. Yarnell had the lone extra-base hit in the game with a double. Heidi Nagel toed the rubber for the Lakers, and threw all 6 innings of the game. Nagel only allowed 4 earned runs while striking out 4.
Game two the Lakers bats woke up with eight hits and scoring 7 runs. However the Raiders offense was too much, besting the visiting Lakers with 12 hits and 11 runs in a 7-11 Laker loss. In the game for the Lakers, Mackenzie Hoogerhyde and Olyviah Hanson both hit home runs. Each of them also had a multi-hit game, as did Mackenzie Lane. Haley Gibson had a double, and Maggie Wallace drove in two runs.
The Lakers return to action for a double header versus Grand Rapids Community College on Thursday, 3/30.
