Softball Finishes Series with Bay College 2-3

Softball hosted Bay College Norse for a five game series. The series consisted of several back and forth contests, ranging from pitching duels to high scoring games.

Game one, the Lakers fell behind 3-0 after two innings, but used a 3-run fourth inning to tie things up. However, the Norse outlasted the Lakers in a down to the wire 8-6 final. Janelle Yarnell and Mackenzie Hoogerhyde each hit a homerun while accumulating three RBI. Ella Clauss turned in a quality multi-hit performance going 2-4 with a run scored.

Game two, Bay poured it on early, getting off to a 11-2 start after three innings. The Lakers had five errors in the game, leading to a 13-3 loss to the Norse. Janelle Yarnell turned in another good performance at the plate, going 2-3 with a run scored and a double. Haley Gibson, Maggie Wallace, and Angelina Lanham each also doubled while Shelby Bundy hit a solo homerun. Olyviah Hanson and Wallace drove in the other two runs for the Lakers.

Game three, Heidi Nagel would not be denied a victory for the home Lakers. Nagel threw all 7 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 10. Yarnell again had a multi-hit performance at the plate going 2-4. Clauss, Lanham, Hoogerhyde, and Grace Garrison each drove in a run for the Lakers in a 4-2 win.

Game four, the Lakers accumulated 11 hits and 9 runs, but it was not enough to overcome Bay resulting in a 11-9 loss. Yarnell hit her second homerun of the series, driving in three more runs. Wallace drove in a pair of runs. Mackenzie Lane had a double while driving in a run. Hooerhyde and Lanham each also had one RBI.

Game five, Nagel toed the rubber again, and threw another gem. She went the full 7 innings, allowing just 3 earned runs on 4 hits while striking out 13. Wallace had a pair of doubles while driving in a run. Olivia Strange also had a double as part of a two hit game, while also driving in two runs. Yarnell and Hoogerhyde also each had a multi-hit game.
