ALPENA, Mich. – After a pair of non-conference losses to Alma College on Monday, the Mid Michigan College softball team (16-21, 11-6 MCCAA North) will return to conference play with a four game series at Alpena this weekend. The Lumberjacks and Lakers will begin their series with a doubleheader at 1:00 pm Saturday, before closing out the weekend with two games Sunday beginning at 1:00 pm.
SCOUTING ALPENA: ACC is 14-18 overall and 11-10 in conference action. The Lumberjacks are led in the pitching circle by Taylor Krentz with an 8-9 record and 4.84 ERA. She has started 16 games and has thrown 114.1 innings. Offensively Emilee Modrzejewski leads the team with a .505 batting average in 29 games, while Kirsten Neubecker has driven in a team high 36 RBIs.
A LOOK AT MID: The Lakers and Lumberjacks have already met once this season at Sports Force Park in Ohio, with Mid earning a 9-3 victory. Adria Reed, Phoenix Shaw, and Gabi Johnston drove in two runs each, while Kylie Pifer and Sage Gauthier each recorded an RBI. Tessa Cameron went the distance on the mound, throwing all seven innings and striking out 10 Alpena batters. She is 9-8 in the circle this year with a 4.01 ERA and 120 strikeouts. Alexis Mielke continues to lead the Laker offense, hitting .500 with four home runs and 32 RBIs. Reed has also hit five home runs and posted 32 RBIs.
In the Lakers last conference series, Mid registered a four game sweep over Muskegon and finished a perfect 5-0 against the Jayhawks this season.
UP NEXT: Mid will return home to take on Bay College in the final four game series of the regular season May 3rd and 4th. All games will be played at Shepherd High School. The Lakers have already clinched a spot in the NJCAA D2 Great Lakes District Tournament. That will be played May 8th-10th at Marysville City Park in Marysville, Mich.
