MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Mid Michigan College softball team enters the final weekend of the regular season after taking three of four at Alpena last weekend. The Lakers will host Bay College in a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at Shepherd High School. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.
Mid is 19-22 overall and 14-7 in MCCAA Northern Conference play, and has qualified for the NJCAA D2 Great Lakes District A Tournament.
SCOUTING BAY: The Norse are 1-22 overall and 0-21 in conference play, most recently being swept at home against Muskegon. Bay earned its only win on March 17th when they defeated Carl Sandburg College 14-13. In 12 games, McKayla Mott leads the team offensively, hitting .529 with four home runs and nine RBIs. Kennedy Sproule has registered a team high 10 RBIs in 19 games. On the mound, Krista Carello leads the way with a 1-8 record in nine starts and 15 appearances while also recording 47 strikeouts.
A LOOK AT MID: The Lakers and Norse have met once this season already. Back on March 29th at Sports Force Park in Ohio, Mid earned an 11-3 victory in five innings. Sage Gauthier had a solo home run for the Lakers, while Adria Reed, Gabi Johnston, and Faith Fisher each recorded an RBI. Phoenix Shaw went 3-of-3 batting with three RBIs. The Lakers also posted eight stolen bases. Johnson had one, Shaw and Ava Gross had two each, and Fisher stole three bags.
In the pitching circle, Gross earned her second win of the year. She threw 4.0 innings with five strikeouts. Tessa Cameron came on in relief to pitch the final inning and struck out two batters.
Overall this season, Alexis Mielke continues to lead the Lakers offensively with a .500 batting average, four home runs and 35 RBIs. Cameron continues to lead the pitching staff with an 11-8 record and 135 strikeouts in 26 appearances.
UP NEXT: The Great Lakes District A Tournament will be held May 8th-10th at Marysville City Park in Marysville, Mich.
