SHEPHERD, Mich. – The Mid Michigan College softball team ended the regular season on a high note, sweeping a four game series against MCCAA Northern Conference foe Bay College this past Saturday and Sunday at Shepherd High School. The Lakers (23-22, 18-7 MCCAA North) won the season series over Bay (1-26, 0-25 MCCAA North) and are heading to the postseason for the third straight year.
After Sunday's doubleheader, Mid honored their seven sophomores. They are Zoey Bacon, Gabby Martinez, Alexis Mielke, Phoenix Shaw, Grace Piggott, Allie Hawkins, and Adria Reed.
Game 1:
Mid opened the weekend with a 13-4 victory on Saturday. The Lakers scored three runs in the bottom of the first before the visiting Norse responded with four runs in the top of the second. The Lakers came back in the bottom half of the second with five runs to take the lead for good and earn the five inning run rule victory.
Bacon drove in a team high three RBIs for the Lakers, while Piggott, Reed, and Mielke had two RBIs each. Tessa Cameron recorded a solo home run in a 2-of-3 effort offensively. On the mound, Brianne Halfmann earned the win. She threw all five innings for Mid and struck out five batters.
Game 2:
Saturday's second game saw Mid register a dominant 22-0 victory. An 11 run third inning by the Lakers blew the game wide open as Bay struggled offensively and failed to get a hit.
Cameron had an outstanding performance for the Lakers, going 4-of-4 at the plate with two home runs and five RBIs. She did not allow a hit on the mound and struck out six batters. Mielke had four RBIs and a home run, while Gabi Johnston had three RBIs. Reed and Ava Gross had two RBIs each.
Game 3:
Bay and Mid returned to the field Sunday afternoon. The Lakers continued to roll as they won the third game of the series 9-0.
Mielke continued her strong weekend with two RBIs. Shaw also drove in two runs with a stolen base while Maddie Bekkering posted two RBIs. Halfmann earned the win in the pitching circle, striking out three batters in 4.2 innings pitched.
Game 4:
The final game of the weekend saw the Lakers earn a 14-0 victory. Martinez and Emmah Hanson provided the highlights with a pair of home runs. Faith Fisher had three RBIs and a stolen base. Johnston recorded an RBI and two stolen bases.
In the circle, Cameron earned the win with five strikeouts in 3.0 innings. She was relieved by Reed and Mielke, who each recorded a strikeout in their inning of work.

The Lakers will prepare for the NJCAA Region 12 Great Lakes District A Championship. Mid will open the tournament against Schoolcraft College on Thursday (May 8th) at 12:00 PM. All games will be played at Marysville City Park in Marysville, Mich.
