Another Historic Season in the Books for Lady Lakers
Hickory, NC - The Mid Michigan College women's basketball team made its mark on the national stage, earning a victory at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Hickory, North Carolina.
The No. 14 seed Lakers opened tournament play with an impressive 72–68 win over No. 19 seed Madison College. Mid Michigan showcased a balanced offensive attack, with Abby Lautzenheiser leading the way with 15 points, while Gracie Mellinger added 14. Delaney Seaman and Alexus Dunn each chipped in 12 points to round out the scoring effort. On the defensive end, Madison Smith controlled the glass with eight rebounds and anchored the paint with three blocks.
With the victory, Mid Michigan advanced to face No. 3 seed Harcum College in the next round. The Lakers came out strong, jumping to an early lead and battling to a tie at the end of the first quarter. However, Harcum took control in the middle quarters and pulled away for an 87–62 win, ending Mid Michigan's tournament run.
Seaman led the Lakers offensively in the loss with a game-high 28 points, while Lautzenheiser added 14 and Mellinger contributed 10.
Despite the season-ending defeat, the Lakers completed one of the most successful campaigns in program history. Mid Michigan finished with an outstanding 27–4 overall record, including a perfect 14–0 mark in MCCAA Northern Conference play.
That undefeated conference run resulted in both the MCCAA Northern Conference Championship and the NJCAA Great Lakes District B title, highlighted by a 100–72 victory over St. Clair County Community College.
The district championship secured the Lakers' fourth consecutive trip to the national tournament and their sixth appearance overall, further cementing Mid Michigan's place among the nation's top programs.
