Lakers Move to 3-1 After 129-75 Handling of Alma College JV

Men's basketball took the floor for one more tune-up game before another true test early on in the season, the Henry Ford Hawks who are ranked #2 in NJCAA D-II. That contest will make the third ranked opponent the Lakers will have squared off against in the first five games of the season. But first, they looked to get in sync against the Alma College Scots JV team. After a slow first few minutes in the game, the offense began firing on all cylinders, and once the offense got rolling, it didn't slow down. The Lakers took a 74-34 advantage into the locker room at half time. The second half was much of the same, outscoring the Scots 55-41 in the second half, resulting in a 129-75 drubbing of the Scots.

The scoring was evenly disbursed, with seven players scoring double figures, including all five starters. Leading the onslaught was Nick Ellis with 25 points on 12-15 shooting. Next in line was Delon McCloud with 17 points. McCloud also racked up 4 assists and a pair of steals. Devin Watts and De'Antre Griffin each had 15 points. Griffin also had 3 steals and 3 assists. Off the bench, Kaleb Wanamaker added 14 points and 4 assists. Wanamaker led all bench scorers. Jayden Hardiman turned in a good performance off the bench as well with 13 points, 4 rebounds, and a pair of assists. James Wright rounded out the double figures scoring with 10 points. Wright also grabbed 8 rebounds, dished 3 assists, and had a pair of steals.

This was a much needed tune-up game heading into the weekend matchup with Henry Ford. Having already defeated #19 Saint Clair County CC, and taken #14 Parkland College down to the wire, the Lakers are proving they can hang with the best of the best. The Lakers will go to battle against #2 Henry Ford on Saturday at 2:00 PM on the road. The game can be live streamed on the Henry Ford College Youtube Channel.
