No. 25 Mid Michigan Falls to Macomb, 93–80

Mt Pleasant, MI - The 25th-ranked Mid Michigan Lakers dropped a tough home matchup Saturday, falling 93–80 to a long, physical Macomb Community College squad. The loss moves the Lakers to 7–4 on the season.

Macomb entered the contest already owning one of the most impressive wins of the early NJCAA season—a decisive 11-point victory over No. 1 Parkland on November 21—and their size immediately presented challenges. With height at every position, including 6'7" forward Lajuan Holloway, the Monarchs controlled the paint as Holloway delivered a 23 point performance.

Mid opened strong and held a 9–4 advantage at the first media timeout. A transition three from Zack Parks pushed the lead back to six, but Macomb quickly answered with a three-point play and a corner triple to tie the game with 12:28 remaining in the first half.

The turning point of the opening period came shortly after, when the Monarchs strung together an 8–0 run to break the tie and take a 32–24 lead at the five-minute mark. Mid battled back behind Parks, who scored back-to-back buckets and added two free throws to cut the deficit to one. A late Macomb score sent the Lakers into halftime trailing 37–34.

The opening minutes of the second half produced a track-meet pace on both ends. Mid Michigan buried four consecutive three-pointers, but each time the Lakers threatened, Macomb answered with slashing drives, post-ups, and effective kick-out threes. The furious back-and-forth kept the margin at three over the first seven minutes.

The tide shifted for good when the Lakers went cold from the field. Macomb capitalized, attacking relentlessly inside and stretching the lead to 11 by the second media timeout. Mid never closed the gap to fewer than eight the rest of the way as the Monarchs' size and free throw shooting proved too much down the stretch.  Macomb was 18 of 24 from the line overall compared to Mid's 8 of 15.

Amonti Greene led the Lakers with 20 points and five assists. Caleb Lindsey added 18 points, while Parks chipped in 14. Vynce Overshown provided a strong all-around effort with 13 points and four assists.

Mid Michigan returns to action on December 15, hosting Glen Oaks in a 7 p.m. matchup.
