Mid Michigan Explodes for 121 Points in Win Over Glen Oaks
Mt Pleasant, MI - Mid Michigan wasted no time asserting control Wednesday night, racing past Glen Oaks 121–96 behind a relentless offensive attack to improve to 8–4 on the season.
The Lakers opened the game on fire, knocking down their first three shots—each from beyond the arc—to jump out to a 9–0 lead. Glen Oaks answered with back-to-back scores to make it 9–5, but Mid quickly responded. A transition basket and a thunderous dunk by Jaden Clark pushed the margin to 15–8 with 17 minutes still remaining in the half.
Both teams played at a furious pace in the opening stretch, trading baskets with little resistance. Mid held a 28–25 edge at the 12-minute mark before Glen Oaks finally cooled off. The Lakers did not. Continued perimeter shooting allowed Mid to stretch the lead to 39–28 by the under-eight media timeout.
Glen Oaks briefly cut into the margin with a pair of free throws and a three-point play, trimming the lead to six. Christian Zielinski answered with a putback, and moments later scored twice more around a Clark dunk to make it 49–39 with four minutes left in the half.
The game broke open late in the period. A double technical assessed to Glen Oaks resulted in four free throws, pushing the lead to 14. On the next two possessions, Mid drained back-to-back three-pointers, ballooning the advantage to 20. By halftime, the Lakers had built a commanding 69–46 lead.
Short-handed with just six available players, Glen Oaks shifted to a straight zone defense in the second half and played freely on the offensive end. A 5–0 run cut the lead to 20, and another 4–0 spurt trimmed it to 82–66 with 12:11 remaining.
Any hope of a comeback was quickly extinguished. Out of a timeout, Bryce White buried a corner three, followed immediately by a Zack Parks steal and pull-up triple to restore control at 88–66. Darren Weaver then scored on back-to-back driving layups, and Amonti Greene followed suit as Mid stretched the lead to 26.
The Lakers cruised the rest of the way, closing out a 121–96 victory.
Amonti Greene led the way with a near triple-double, finishing with 21 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds. Parks poured in 27 points and grabbed six boards, while Vynce Overshown added 16 points and five assists. Clark chipped in 14 points, and Zielinski filled the stat sheet with 15 points, five assists, and six rebounds.
Mid Michigan returns to action Wednesday at Jackson College in its final game before the new year. The Lakers will next be home on January 5, hosting Alma College.
