Men's Hoops Knocks of #2 Henry Ford for Second Ranked Win, Moves Record to 4-1

Coach House had a plan for the non-conference schedule and it was clear, it was to challenge his team. The Lakers through their first four games had seen two ranked opponents #19 Saint Clair County CC and #14 Parkland College, and they walked out of those games with a split record, and an overall record of 3-1. They then shifted their focus to perhaps the biggest challenge to date, #2 Henry Ford College. The Hawks are a consistent NJCAA Tournament qualifier, and being a topped ranked team in the country is nothing new for them. The Hawks were participants in the NJCAA tournament last year, and got knocked out by Orange County, resulting in a sixth place national finish. The Lakers came in ready to play, and didn't back down, hitting the halftime intermission with a 52-40 lead on the road versus the Hawks. It was a down to the wire game, with teams trading buckets, and trading the lead late, but it was the Lakers who would prevail with a 98-94 road win. This marked the teams second ranked victory of the season, and pushed their record to 4-1.

Nick Ellis led the way for the Lakers with 22 points on 8-13 shooting, all apart of a double-double performance which included 11 total rebounds. Delon McCloud continued his hot start to the season with 19 points and 3 assists. Devin Watts scored 18 points, hitting some triple three pointers. Watts shot 5-8 from the floor and 3-4 from three. James Wright had a near double-double, with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals. Joe Iung provided some spark off the bench with 9 points on 4-5 shooting, while grabbing 5 rebounds and dishing 3 assists.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday, November 18th when they travel to Schoolcraft College.
