Men's Hoops Second Half Comeback Not Enough Versus Kellogg
Men's basketball hosted the Kellogg Community College Bruins in the final non-conference game of the season. The Bruins came in with a 12-0 record, the host Lakers came in at 8-4 and have been battle tested in their non-conference slate.
The Lakers got off to a fast start, but Kellogg came roaring back, taking a 38-28 lead into the break. The second half was back and forth, consisting of high intensity, and included several lead changes deep into the game. The Lakers fell short in their comeback efforts, losing to the Bruins 79-74.
The Lakers were led in scoring by Devin Watts who scored a season-high 19 points. Watts was perfect from the charity stripe, shooting 5-5. Watts also had 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Nick Ellis scored 14 points on 5-9 shooting from the field. Ellis also grabbed 12 rebounds and swatted 2 shots. Delon McCloud scored 14 points, and added 5 steals, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. De'Antre Griffin added 12 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal. Joe Iung provided a spark off the bench, scoring 8 points and grabbing 3 rebounds, on top of playing some pesky defense.
The Lakers finished 8-5 in non-conference play, and are scheduled to kick off the conference slate at North Central Michigan College on Saturday, 1/13 with a 3:00 PM tip.
