Men's Hoops Evens Conference Record at 1-1, Moves to 9-6 on the Season
Men's basketball hit the road for their second conference game of the season, this time they'd travel to take on the Grand Rapids Community College Raiders.
The Lakers were looking to avenge their loss to North Central Michigan to open the conference slate and get back in the win column.
The men came out scalding hot on the offensive side of the ball, scoring 57 points in the first half. After being all even at 9-9 about five minutes into the game, the Lakers went on a 48-22 run the ensuing 15 minutes of the half.
The Raiders did their best to cut into the 26-point halftime deficit, but the Lakers prevailed with a 92-77 road win.
Devin Watts led all scorers in the game with 21 points on 8-12 shooting from the field, including 5-8 from three. Watts also added 5 assists and 4 steals. James Wright was second in scoring for the Lakers with 18 points. Wright also added 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Delon McCloud added 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. De'Antre Griffin scored 12 points on 5-11 shooting. Griffin also had 8 rebounds and a block. Joe Iung added 11 points and 4 rebounds off the bench. Nick Ellis grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds.
The Lakers were led to the victory by Devin Watts and his career-high 21 points. The win pulled their conference record to 1-1 and 9-6 overall on the season.
They'll return to action on Saturday, 1/20 for their first conference home game of the season when they host the Kirtland Community College Firebirds.
