Men's Hoops Wins Home Conference Opener, Moves to 10-6 on the Season

Men's basketball was looking to win their second consecutive conference game, and their home conference opener, when they hosted the Kirtland Community College Firebirds. On the heels of an impressive 97-point performance in the road win over GRCC, the Lakers looked to continue their offensive hot stretch.

The first half consisted of transition offense and clean looks. That netted the Lakers a 56-point first half, building a 33-point lead. The second half was much of the same, resulting in the Lakers eclipsing the 100-point mark for a single game for the second time this season. The high-octane offense has surpassed 90 points scored in seven of their now sixteen games this season.

James Wright led the way in scoring with 17 points on 8-13 shooting from the floor. Wright also grabbed 9 rebounds, which also was the team-high for the contest. Each starter amassed double-digit in the point column. Nick Ellis added 16 points, good for second on the squad. De'Antre Griffin scored 14 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Delon McCloud scored 12 points and dished 5 assists. Devin Watts notched a double-double, the first of his career, scoring 11 points and dishing 10 assists. Jordan Chandler added 10 points off the bench, rounding out the double digit scoring. Chandler also added 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Lakers return to action Wednesday, 1/24 when they travel to Delta College for another conference road game.
