Men's Hoops Wins Fourth Straight, Moves to 12-6
Men's basketball came into Saturday's game with the Alpena Community College Lumberjacks having won three consecutive MCCAA Northern Conference games.
The Lumberjacks came in with a 4-9 record, but the record was not indicative of how tough Alpena played their previous opponents. Alpena came in having won two of their first three conference games, the only loss being a tight 5-point loss to conference leading Bay College.
The Lakers and Lumberjacks fought for the first half, trading the lead multiple times, but the Lakers took the lead heading into the half 50-42.
The Lakers dominated the second half, outscoring the Lumberjacks 48-24, resulting in a 98-66 win. The win marked the fourth consecutive conference win, pushing their record to 12-6.
De'Antre Griffin led the team in scoring, setting his season-high mark of 21 points scored on 8-11 shooting. Griffin also grabbed 7 rebounds and gathered 3 steals. Delon McCloud was second on the team, scoring 18 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and 2 dishing a pair of assists. James Wright flirted with a double-double with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Wright shot 7-13 from the floor and gathered a pair of steals. Off the bench, Kaleb Wanamaker shot a perfect 3-3 from beyond the three point line, and a perfect 3-3 from the charity stripe for his 12 points. Devin Watts rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Lakers, scoring 10 points. Watts also added 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Lakers return to action on Wednesday, January 31st when they travel to take on the Muskegon Community College Jayhawks.
