Big Second Half Moves Men's Hoops Past North Central, Notching 7th Conference Win
Men's basketball came into the home contest with the North Central Michigan College Timberwolves having been winners of 6 of their last 7 games, and were looking to notch their 7th conference win of the season.
North Central came out firing and unwilling to back down, jumping out to an early lead in the first half. After trading leads in the first portion of the half, the Lakers fell behind by 8 points heading into the half, trailing 45-37.
The Lakers would not falter in the second half, and turned the game into a track meet, one they'd eventually prevail in. The Lakers outscored the Timberwolves 55-26 in the second half, resulting in a convincing 92-71 win.
The victory pushes the men's record to 15-7 on the season, and 7-2 in the MCCAA Northern Conference. The Lakers remain in second place, trailing only Bay College for the conference crown with 5 conference games to play.
Delon McCloud led the team in scoring with 26 points on 10-14 shooting, including shooting 4-5 from three. McCloud also gathered 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Nick Ellis was next in line with 21 points on 7-9 shooting. Ellis knocked down the only three-pointer he took. Ellis also grabbed 8 rebounds. James Wright turned in a double-double performance, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Wright shot an efficient 10-15 from the field.
The Lakers return to action on Wednesday, December 14th when they play host to the Delta College Pioneers. This game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 PM.
The contest with the Pioneers will also be the MCCAA Hunger Games Event for the Lakers. This event is a conference wide initiative in which each member institution selects a home game, and collects non-perishable food items to donate back to our local community. Come out and support your Lakers, and your local community!
