Coach House Earns Career Win Number 175 in 111-96 Shootout with Delta

Men's hoops played host to the Delta College Pioneers, the Lakers on the heels of back-to-back conference wins hoped to make it three in a row. 

The game was a track meet from the start, with the team trading baskets quicker than one could count them. After trading leads early in the game, the Lakers pulled away a bit in the first half, taking a 12-point lead into the locker room at halftime.

The second half was tightly contested, but the first half margin proved to be too much for the Pioneers to overcome. The Lakers held on to win the high-scoring affair 111-96. This marked the fourth time the Lakers have eclipsed 100 points scored in a game this season.

The Lakers saw several very strong contributions, including leading scorer Delon McCloud, who scored 28 points on 11-18 shooting. McCloud also shot 4-6 from three, while dishing 5 assists and grabbing 4 rebounds. Devin Watts turned in a strong performance as well. scoring a career-high 22 points. Watts shot an efficient 5-9 from three. Watts also gathered 4 steals, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. James Wright also notched a 20-point performance on 8-13 shooting from the floor. Wright grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 4 assists as well. Nick Ellis added 13 points on 6-10 shooting. Ellis also grabbed 7 rebounds, dished 3 assists, and blocked 2 shots. Joe Iung wrapped up the double-digit scoring for the Lakers with 12 points off the bench. Iung shot a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. He also accumulated 4 assists and 4 steals.

The win marked victory number 175 in the career of Head Coach Kaleb House. Coach House has been at the helm of the men's hoops team since 2012. In his tenure spanning over a decade, the Lakers have finished with a record better than .500 eight times, and the current season will mark the ninth. Last season, Coach House led the Lakers to their first 20-win season in program history, and the Lakers have a chance to do it again this season with a strong finish to the season. 

The Lakers will return to action on Saturday, February 17th when they travel to Kirtland Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM and it will be the Firebirds' MCCAA Hunger Games Event.
