Men's Basketball Wins Fifth in a Row, Record Now to 18-7

Men's basketball came into Wednesday's game versus Muskegon Community College having been winners of their last four games in a row, hoping to extend their winning streak to five in a row, and push their record to 18-7 on the season. The Lakers have a stranglehold on the second seed in the MCCAA Northern Conference, while the Jayhawks came into the game at 5-6 in conference play, hoping to jump in the rankings to qualify for the Great Lakes District tournament.

The two teams battled for most of the first half, trading early leads, but the Jayhawks couldn't get the lead inside of a couple of possessions. Eventually, the Lakers extended the lead to double digits going into the halftime intermission, holding a 10-point lead. From there, the second half was all Lakers. The second half consisted of stifling defense, ram rattling dunks, great team basketball, and three pointers began falling. The Lakers ballooned their lead in the second half en route to a 98-70 home win over the Jayhawks.

The win pushed the Lakers record to 18-7 on the season, and 10-2 in conference play.

The men were led in scoring by James Wright, who turned in a double-double performance. Wright scored 20 points on 9-12 shooting from the floor. He worked hard on the glass, gathering 10 rebounds, f of which came on the offensive glass. Delon McCloud was next in line for the Laker, scoring 18 points in the game. McCloud knocked down four three-pointers, and also gathered 3 rebounds and 2 steals. De'Antre Griffin turned in a 15-point scoring effort, shooting 6-9 from the field, including knocking down two threes. Griffin also added 4 rebounds and 4 steals to the box score. Nick Ellis added 13 points, 7 rebounds, and a blocked shot, while shooting a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. Joe Iung rounded out the double-digit scoring performance with 12 points on 5-6 shooting from the floor.

The Lakers scored over 90 points in the contest. This marked the fifth game in a row, and the fifteenth time this season they did so.
