Men's Basketball Extends Win Streak to Six Games, Knocks off Alpena on the Road

Men's basketball came in winners of five conference games in a row, looking to capture win number six in a row. They traveled to Alpena to take on the Lumberjacks, who have been a tough out all season in conference play.

Offense remained the name of the game for the Lakers, scoring 52 points in the first half. This was good enough to hold a convincing 52-30 lead over the Lumberjacks at the half. The second half, although more tightly contested, lengthened the lead for the Lakers, resulting in a big road win 107-76 over the Lumberjacks.

The Lakers were led in scoring by Delon McCloud, who scored 21 points on 9-14 shooting from the floor. McCloud also added 6 assists and 4 steals. James Wright was next in line, also shooting 9-14, which was good for 18 points. Wright gathered 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Nick Ellis contributed a strong 18 points. De'Antre Griffin logged a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Griffin shot an efficient 6-10 from the floor and 2-3 from three. Griffin also had 4 assists and 2 steals. Devin Watts and Kaleb Wanamaker rounded out the double digit scoring for the Lakers with 11 points.

The Lakers have relied on their up tempo and opportunistic offense, having scored at least 90 points in every game of the current six game win streak. They'll look to avenge their early season loss to the Bay College Norse when they host them in Mount Pleasant on Tuesday, 2/27. The game will be the Lakers "Sophomore Day," ceremony and will be an opportunity for the Lakers to earn 20 wins for the second consecutive season. The game is slated to tip at 7:30 PM following the conclusion of the women's game.
