Baseball goes 3-3 Last 6 Games of Spring Training, Heads North 7-5

Baseball looked to bounce back after being swept by Owens Community College for their first losses on the season. They returned to battle with a double header versus Ridgewater College on Monday, 3/6.

Game one, the Lakers found themselves trailing 2-0 heading into the final inning. After plating a pair of runs, the Lakers walked it off, with an RBI single by Andrew Charters. Alex Duley settled in after the first inning run was scored by Ridgewater to throw all 7 innings, allowing 0 ER and striking out 7. In addition to the Charters RBI single, Keegan Merenuk and Beau Falkenhagen drove in a run each. 

Game two, the bats were cold, only mustering up a pair of hits. Brennan Hallman had an RBI double in the game. The Lakers committed 4 errors in the game, resulting in a 12-2 loss.

After splitting with Ridgewater, the Lakers returned to action with another double header, this one split between Century College and Minnesota North College-Mesabi Range on Tuesday, 3/7.

Game one versus Century was a game the Lakers let slip away late. They held a 6-5 lead heading into the 6th inning, and lost the contest 10-6. The Lakers had several players with extra base hits. Matt Barger went 2-4 with a double. Angel Gomez went 2-4 with a double, triple, and drove in a pair of runs. Tyler Duncan went 2-3 with a double and a homerun. Daniel Howell and Brendan Willadsen both also drove in a run in the loss. 

Game two versus Minnesota North College-Mesabi Range, the Lakers looked to get themselves to 1-1 on the day. They would not be denied, as Dean Sommer pitched a gem. Sommer threw 7 innings of one-hit baseball, striking out 11 in a 6-0 blanking. Beau Falkenhagen had pair of doubles and an RBI. Donovan Borg went 3-3 with a double, triple, and 3 runs driven in. Brady Alverson also drove in a run.

The final day of the spring trip, the Lakers took on Marian-Ancilla College game one, and Niagara County Community College game two on Wednesday, 3/8.

Logan Morris took the ball game one versus Ancilla, going 6 innings allowing only one earned run, striking out 4. He earned the win in a 7-2 win over the Chargers. Beau Falkenhagen drove hit a homerun, and drove in 4 runs in the game. Avain Rivera went 4-4 with an RBI double. Donovan Borg, Keegan Merenuk, and Tyler Duncan each had a multi-hit game. 

Game two versus Niagara County, the bats cooled off, resulting in a 6-1 loss to the Thunder Wolves. The Lakers only had one hit, a single from Angel Gomez

The Lakers returned north from their spring training trip with a 7-5 record, looking ahead to a road double header weekend with Saint Clair County Community College on 3/17 and 3/18.
