Baseball Award Winners Announced
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The MCCAA released its 2025 baseball award winners on Tuesday (May 20th) afternoon, with multiple members of the Mid Michigan College baseball team receiving honors.
Jack Nilson led the Mid honorees, earning All-MCCAA, All-Freshman, and First Team All-Northern Conference honors. The Macomb native hit .355 with one home run and 24 RBIs in 37 games this season, and has committed to continuing his career at NAIA Madonna University.
David Wheeler joined Nilson on the All-Freshman team while also receiving Second Team All-Northern Conference. In eight starts on the mound this season, he sported a 6-2 record with a 3.70 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 48.2 innings pitched.
Joining Wheeler on the Second Team All-Northern Conference was Justin Esch, who hit .383 with three home runs and 31 RBIs in 41 games.
The Lakers had two members named Honorable Mention All-Conference. They were Donovan Heugh and Eddie McDonald.
Mid finished the 2025 season with a 27-17 overall record and 17-8 mark in MCCAA North action. The Lakers qualified for the NJCAA Region 12 Opening Round under first year head coach Danny Smith.
Coach Smith and the Lakers will return to the diamond this September for fall ball.
