Lakers Baseball Earns Multiple Postseason Honors Following Outstanding 2026 Season
Macomb, MI - The baseball program at Mid Michigan College capped off an impressive 2026 campaign with several Lakers receiving postseason recognition at the conference and regional levels.
Headlining the awards was sophomore standout Donovan Heugh, who was named Northern Conference Player of the Year while also earning First Team All-Conference, All-MCCAA, and Region XII All-Region honors following a dominant season on the mound and at the plate for the Lakers.
Heugh emerged as one of the top pitchers in the conference during his sophomore campaign, finishing the season with a 7-2 record and a 3.44 ERA across 52.1 innings pitched. He struck out 69 batters while throwing three complete games and consistently delivered quality starts throughout conference play.
Joining Heugh on the Region XII All-Region Team was sophomore infielder Tyler Schultz, who also earned First Team All-Conference and All-MCCAA honors after becoming one of Mid Michigan's most reliable offensive contributors during the season.
Schultz appeared in 46 games for the Lakers and finished the year batting .430 with 58 hits, 41 RBIs, 59 runs scored, thirteen doubles, five round-trippers and a .544 on-base percentage. His consistency at the plate and defensive presence in the infield played a major role in Mid Michigan's success throughout the year.
Sophomore Nic Stimac also received major postseason recognition after being named First Team All-Conference and earning All-MCCAA honors. Stimac was one of the Lakers' top hitters during the season, batting .360 with 41 hits, 37 RBIs, 9 homeruns and a .468 on base percentage. He also fielded at a .989 clip behind the dish and threw out 10 of 24 would be base stealers.
Sophomore pitcher David Wheeler earned Second Team All-Conference recognition following an outstanding season on the mound for Mid Michigan. Wheeler posted a 5-2 record with a 5.48 ERA over 44.1 innings pitched while striking out 47 batters. He also recorded two complete games with one shutout while limiting his opponents batting average to just .263, establishing himself as one of the Lakers' top starting pitchers throughout the spring.
Rounding out the Lakers postseason honorees was Brandon Schomisch, and Chris Williams, who received hnorable mention All-Conference recognition after contributing throughout the 2026 campaign. Their efforts helped provide depth and leadership for Mid Michigan during conference competition and throughout the season.
As a team, the Lakers finished the season with a 26-21 overall record and a 17-8 mark in conference play, continuing to establish themselves as one of the top programs in the region.
The postseason awards reflect the continued growth and competitiveness of the Mid Michigan baseball program, as well as the dedication and hard work displayed by the Lakers throughout the 2026 season. The coaching staff and athletic department congratulate Donovan Heugh, Tyler Schultz, Nic Stimac, David Wheeler, Chris Williams and Brandon Schomisch on their well-deserved honors.
